Our May birthday lineup is quite the cast of characters with a wide variety of backgrounds. One is arguably the most famous country music singer of our generation!
Tito Santana
Merced Solid, better know by his wrestling name, Tito Santana, is the first in our lineup. Solis was born May 10th, 1953 in Mission, Texas. Before his breakout wrestling career, Tito was a standout four year starter for the West Texas A&M Football Team, and played tight end for the university.
Santana had an early breakout wrestling career because of his larger than life stature and appeal to both American and Mexican wrestling audiences. He is remembered for his illustrious Pro wrestling career, in which he won multiple heavy weight titles across the world. Santana was truly a world ambassador for the sport of professional wrestling – he toured all across the world for multiple decades. After his pro wrestling career, Santana was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2004. He would later go on to write his own autobiography, Tito Santana Takes From the Ring.



Richard Arvin Overton
Next up is Richard Arvin Overton, the oldest living World War ll veteran. He was born May 11th, 1906 in Bastrop, Texas, and lived 112 years. Overton served in the south pacific campaign of WWll, and received a bronze Star medal for his service and outstanding marksmanship.
After his military service, Overton went on to work for the Texas treasury department in Austin, Texas. He was known for his love of cigars and strong coffee. Overton had the pleasure of meeting president, Barack Obama in 2013.



Mary Kay Ash
Third is a very famous Houstonian who created a beauty cosmetic empire – the world famous Mary Kay Ash. She was born May 12th, 1918 in Harris County, Texas. Mary Kay Ash was always on a mission to do something great, no matter the obstacles. After experiencing first hand sexual discrimination early on in the workplace, Mary kay decided to take a big leap, not only for herself but for all women in the workplace. In 1963, Mary Kay Ash launched her own female powered business, “Mary Kay Cosmetics,” and the rest is history.
Today Mary Kay Cosmetics has over 3.7 billion dollars in sales, including over 2.5 million sales consultants worldwide. She was worth an estimated $98 million when she passed in 2001. Mary Kay Ash had the unique ability to connect a proud group of women who ultimately found purpose through encouragement and cultivated her vision into a global beauty cosmetic empire.



George Strait
Rounding out this list is country super star, George Strait! The “King of Country” was born May 18th, 1952 in Poteet, Texas. He started from humbled beginnings of playing gigs in college bars. George Strait received an agricultural degree from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas while perusing his country music aspirations.
In 1981, Strait’s musical career officially started to take off with his first hit single, “Unwound”. 30 years later, the living legend has accumulated 60 number one hits, selling over 100 million records worldwide. With 22 awards, he holds the record for the most Country Music Association wins. It’s easy to see why he is considered one of the most influential and popular country music recording artists of all time.



Monica Lin Brown
Wrapping up this list is a living war hero, Monica Lin Brown. Born May 24th, 1988 in Lake Jackson, Texas, Monica is a United States Army sergeant and medic who famously became the first woman to serve during the War in Afghanistan. Joining the army at the age of just 17, Monica would go on to have a highly decorated military career.
In 2007, a roadside bomb detonated near a convoy in Afghanistan. Brown saved the lives of fellow soldiers by running through enemy gunfire and sheilding the wounded with her own body. After her recovery. she received the Silver Star, becoming first woman since WWll to receive this award for her valor in combat.
